路面清掃でリフレッシュ / The Road Cleaning made Me feel Refreshed

８月14日、赤穂市 交通公園の路面清掃を行ないました。
前回の清掃エリアに隣接している外周路、約24㎡を、5時30分 から 10時30分で終えました。また、通常は報告していませんが、過去に清掃を完了しているとエリアの再清掃を12時まで行ないましたが、やはり、外に出て身体を動かすのは良いですね。

On August 14th, the road surface of Ako City Transportation Park was cleaned.
We completed the outer circumference, approximately 24 m2, adjacent to the previous cleaning area, from 5:30 to 10:30.  Also, although I don't usually report it, if I had completed the cleaning in the past, I would have re-cleaned the area until 12:00, but it's still good to go outside and move my body.  



実は、仕事で使っていた PCが 8月10日にダウンして以来、やりかけていた仕事が急に出来なくなって、鬱々としていましたが、その落ち込みはずっと軽くなりました。

Actually, ever since the PC I used for work went down on August 10th, I was suddenly unable to continue the work I had started, which had been depressing, but now I feel much less depressed.

更に、良い出会いもありました。
ウォーキングしていた年配の(僕より若い) 女性が近づいてきて、「いつも、ありがとうございます」と言ってくださったのですが。 そして女性の右手を見れば、中に小さな何かが入っているビニール袋が握られていて、「私も何か出来ないかと思って、タバコの吸い殻を拾っています」と言ってくださったのです。素敵な事です。そして、私達の周りには、率先して何気なくゴミを拾っている、一度もお目にかかった事のない人が大勢いらっしゃる事も知っています。そんな心の方と、今日、お会い出来たのです。

Furthermore, we had a good encounter.
 An elderly person walking (younger than me) approached me and said, "Thank you as always."  When I looked at the woman's right hand, she saw a plastic bag with something small inside, and she said, "I'm picking up a cigarette butt, thinking I can't do anything either."  It's a wonderful thing.  We also know that there are many people around us who have taken the initiative and casually picked up trash, who have never met before.  I met such a person today.

そして、次回の清掃エリアは、今回の清掃エリアの隣、外周路で最も土砂の堆積が多いコーナー（角）です。そんな土砂の上で、外周路に面して植えられた灌木が大きく茂り、外周路に覆いかぶさる様に育っている様子は無法地帯です。決して広いエリアではありませんが、少し苦労させられそうです。でも、頑張ります。

The next cleaning area is next to the current cleaning area, in the corner of the outer road with the most sediment. The shrubs planted facing the outer road have grown so large on the sediment that they hang over the road, creating a lawless area. It's not a large area, but it looks like it will be a bit of a challenge. But we'll do our best.

赤穂市交通公園 利用記録（8月12日）/ Ako City Traffic Park User Report "August 12th"

私達が昨年から 路面清掃を行なっている赤穂市の交通公園で、新しい利用者の方たちを見掛けましたので報告します。親子連れと思われる三人の方たちです。

We're reporting on some new visitors to Ako City's Traffic Park, where we've been cleaning the roads since last year. They were three people, likely a mother and her child.

この日は、路面清掃の作業日ではなく、偶々、街に買い物に出かけた際に見掛けたのですが、母親らしき方は初めて訪れた様子で公園内を歩いて見回し、男の子は乗り始めて間もない様子で自転車に乗り、男の子よりも小さな女の子は物珍しそうに公園内を歩き回っていました。

This wasn't a road cleaning day, but rather, I spotted them while I was out shopping in town. The mother, who appeared to be visiting for the first time, was walking around the park, looking around. The boy seemed to have just started riding a bicycle, and the younger girl was wandering around the park curiously.

きっと、近所にお住まいの方たちだと思いますが、お二人のお子様が一般道で安全に自転車に乗れる様になる為に、この公園を利用し続けて欲しいと願っています。その為にも、私達は公園の路面を安全にする清掃を続けていきますし、その価値は決して小さくはないと信じています。

I'm sure they are local residents, but I hope that their two children will continue to use this park so that they can ride their bicycles safely on public roads. To that end, we will continue to clean the park's roads to make them safe, and I believe that this is of great value.

交通公園清掃報告「8月10日の清掃」/ Traffic Park Cleanup Report: "August 10th Cleanup"

8月10日、赤穂市の交通公園の路面清掃は、お盆前、真夏の作業となりました。
On August 10th, the road surface cleaning at Ako City's Traffic Park took place in the middle of summer, just before the Obon festival.

公園の中央部を走り十字に交わっている幅の広い通路の清掃を終え、今は公園の外周部を取り囲む幅3ｍの通路の清掃を行なっています。この外周路の安全が確保できれば、安心して自転車走行の講習会が行える環境になるでしょう。残り約 90ｍの外周路が清掃を待っています。

After completing the wide crisscrossing pathway that runs through the center of the park, we are now working on the 3m-wide pathway that surrounds the park's perimeter. Ensuring the safety of this perimeter path will ensure a safe environment for bicycle training sessions. The remaining 90m of the perimeter path awaits cleaning.

恐らく、公園は横を流れる川が氾濫して、何度も水面下になったのでしょう。公園を取り囲む河川敷の草地と共に土砂が堆積して、公園の舗装路面よりも高く積もっています。きっと、以前も路面清掃は行われた筈ですが、公園周辺部からの土砂と草の侵入の痕跡ははっきりと残っています。

The river flowing alongside the park likely flooded, submerging the park several times. Sediment has accumulated along the grassy riverbed surrounding the park, and has now piled up higher than the park's paved road surface. As a result, there are clear signs of sediment and grass invading from the surrounding areas.

更に、舗装路面は所々で亀裂が走り、その亀裂からは草たちが顔を出し、例え草刈りしても、根や茎が残っている限り、年月が経る度に亀裂を広げて舗装路面を破壊していきます。だから、可能な限り、根から草を抜き取って、路面の破壊を抑えています。

Furthermore, cracks run through the pavement in places, and grass peeks out from these cracks. Even if the grass is mowed, as long as the roots and stems remain, the cracks will widen over time, destroying the pavement. For this reason, we are pulling out the grass by the roots as much as possible to prevent damage to the road surface.

今回の清掃を終えて、外周路のコーナーが間近に迫って来ました。コーナー（角）まで清掃するには 後二日の清掃になるでしょう。

With today's cleaning completed, the outer corner of the road is fast approaching. It will take another two days of cleaning to clean all the way to the corner.

次回の清掃目標エリアは、公園の横を流れる川に近づくので、土砂が堆積している量も多くなります。このエリアではとても大きな土砂溜まりが路面を覆っていたので、昨年12月、その巨大な土砂溜まりを清掃していまｓが、その跡が路面の右側に白っぽい半円形の形で残っています。次回は、左側の外周部の土砂溜まりの除去がメインになるでしょう。

The area we will be cleaning next will have a large amount of accumulated sediment. A very large puddle of sediment covered the road surface in this area, and we cleaned that huge puddle in December of last year. A whitish semicircular trace remains on the right side of the road. Next time, we will focus on removing the puddle on the outer perimeter on the left side.

オートバイのライディングで最も大切な事は、公道上で事故を起こさず、可能な限り事故に遭遇しない事です。その為には、自身のライディング技術のレベルを知り、オートバイの運動特性を理解する事が欠かせません。

The most important thing when riding a motorcycle is to avoid accidents on public roads and minimize them as much as possible. To achieve this, it's essential to know your own riding skill level and understand the dynamic characteristics of your motorcycle.



『 画像から診断 / Diagnosis from Images 』

この【画像で診るライディングスキル】は、一枚のライディング画像から、その人のライディングの特徴を読み取って解説する企画で、不定期で掲載を行ないます。そして、今回の画像は以下の一枚です。 あなたは、何を読み取る事が出来ますか？

This "Examing Riding Skills Through Images" project, published irregularly, aims to interpret and explain a rider's riding characteristics from a single riding image. The image featured today is the one below. What can you infer from it?

   
最もライディングの特徴が表われやすいのがコーナリング画像です。そして、僕が常に注目するのは、「 バンク角 」と  「 フロントフォークのストローク（沈み込み）量 」、そして 「 前輪の向き 」です。それら 3つの要素を観るだけで、その人のライディングスタイルやスキルレベルが判断できるので、ライディングフォームや着座位置などライダーの身体には特に注意を払いません。

Cornering images are the most likely to reveal riding characteristics. I always pay attention to the "Lean Angle," "Front Fork Stroke," and "Front Wheel Direction." Just by observing these three elements, I can determine a rider's riding style and skill level, so I don't pay particular attention to rider's physical appearance, such as riding form or seating position.

■ バンク角 / Lean Angle

・ 模範走行中のため、バンク角は穏やかですが、問題はありません
・ Since this is a demonstration run, the lean angle is gentle, but there's no problem.

■ ストローク量 / Stroke

  ・ 充分にストロークをしています。この事から、前輪への荷重は掛かっており、前輪のグリップ力は充分だと判ります
・There's ample stroke. This indicates that the front wheel is loaded and has sufficient grip.

■ 前輪の向き / Front Wheel Direction

・ 180度ターンのセクションで、前輪はコーナーの出口方向の 8割近くまで向きが変わっており、充分にアクセルを開けて行ける状態である事が判ります
・During the 180-degree turn, the front wheel has turned nearly 80% toward the exit of the corner, indicating that the throttle is fully open.
 
    
以上の事から、この人のライディングは、この画像を見る限り、全く問題なく、お手本の様な走りである事が判ります。

From the above, this person's riding, as seen in this image, is flawless and exemplary.


『 アクセルポイントについて / About Throttle Point 』

「アクセルポイント」とは、アクセルを開け始める地点の事ですが、真のアクセルポイントの理解と実践は簡単ではありませ。なぜかと言うと、ライダーが理解するアクセルポイントとオートバイにとって最適なアクセルポイントは違っているからです。
今回の画像で説明します。180度ターンの場合、前半の 90度の区間は前輪に多くの荷重が掛かり、画像の様に、車体の向きが 90度変わった時点で前輪から荷重は抜け始めています。だから、その時に合わせてアクセルを開け始める事で、旋回の前半で生まれていた荷重が後輪へと移す事が出来ます。つまり、後輪のグリップ力を高める事が出来るのです。従って、180度ターンの場合、この画像の様に前輪の向きが 80％ ほど変わってさえいれば、コーナー出口に向けてアクセルを開け続ける事が出来るのです。そうです、オートバイにとっては、後輪の向きが 90度変わった 画像の地点で アクセルを開け始めるのが最も効率が良い旋回が可能なのです。しかし、多くの場合、ライダーはそれを理解できず、また充分に練習を積む機会も無いのが現状です。

この『画像で診るライディングスキル』は、「ライディングスキルを高めたい」と願っている人の参考にしてもらう為に、長年、数多くの人のライディングを観察して、そした僕自身もスキルを高める為の研究と練習を重ねてきた経験や知識を届けていきますので、参考にしてもらえると幸いです。

The "throttle point" refers to the point at which you begin to open the throttle, but understanding and practicing the true throttle point is not easy. This is because the throttle point understood by riders is different from the optimal throttle point for a motorcycle.
Let me explain with this image. In a 180-degree turn, the front wheel bears most of the weight during the first 90-degree section. As the image shows, once the motorcycle's orientation has turned 90 degrees, the weight begins to be released from the front wheel. Therefore, by starting to open the throttle at that time, the weight generated during the first half of the turn can be transferred to the rear wheel, thereby increasing the rear wheel's grip. Therefore, in a 180-degree turn, as long as the front wheel has turned about 80%, as shown in this image, you can continue to open the throttle toward the corner exit. That's right, for motorcycles, the most efficient way to turn is to start opening the throttle when the rear wheel has turned 90 degrees, as shown in the image. However, in many cases, riders do not understand this and do not have the opportunity to practice it sufficiently.

This book, "Examining Riding Skills through Images," is intended to be a reference for anyone wishing to "improve their riding skills." It shares the experience and knowledge I have gained from observing the riding of many people over many years, as well as my own extensive research and practice in improving my skills, so I hope you will find it useful.

交通公園清掃報告「真夏の路面清掃」/ Traffic Park Clean-up Report "Midsummer Road Cleaning"

8月1日、赤穂市の交通公園の路面清掃は、夏らしい陽射しの下での作業になりました。
On August 1st, we cleaned the road surface at Ako City's Traffic Park under the warm, summer sunshine.         

6月ほどの雨量には恵まれていないので、草たちの伸びる勢いは以前ほどではありません。しかし、そんな条件にも負けず、舗装の継ぎ目を広げ、根を地中深く張り、細く短い葉でしぶとく生き残り戦略をかけている草もいます。当然、可能な限り地中の根を除去して、再生と路面破壊を阻止します。

Due to the lack of rainfall during this time of year, grass growth is not as vigorous as it used to be. However, despite these conditions, some grasses have expanded the pavement joints, spreading their roots deep underground and using thin, short leaves to tenaciously survive. We removed them by the roots.

公園のあらゆる所には、こうした土砂溜まりがあります。舗装の継ぎ目に生えた草たちが土を呼ぶのか、或いは、溜まった土に呼ばれた草たちが更に土を呼び込むのか？ 可能な限り除去しますが、継ぎ目が広がっている以上、数か月後には草たちは再生します。暫くはイタチごっこは続くでしょう。

Such mud puddles were common in the park. We removed as much as possible, but as the joints remain wide, the grass will regenerate in a few months. This game of cat-and-mouse will likely continue for a while.

一方、公園外の草地と接した外周部では、堆積した土砂につられて来た植物たちが多く、一旦、土砂を除去すれば、襲来は防げます。しかし、自転車でオートバイの練習を行なう場合、一番危ないのは草ではありません。土や小石です。

On the other hand, in the outer perimeter of the park, where the grass borders the surrounding area, simply removing the mud will prevent the grass from invading. However, when practicing riding a motorcycle, the greatest danger is not the grass, but the dirt and pebbles.

最も誤解を受け易い事ですが、交通公園の清掃で大切にしている事は「草」の除去ではありません。なぜなら、公園を練習で利用する人にとっては、草は目につきやすい存在なので、注意すれば避ける事が出来るからです。しかし、細かい砂や小石の殆どは目に留まり難く、転倒などを招き易い存在です。だから、特に神経を使って除去しているのは、砂や小石です。

Considering the most commonly misunderstood concept, our main focus in cleaning is not simply removing the "grass." This is because grass is easily noticeable to people who use the park for practice. However, fine sand and pebbles are often less noticeable and can easily lead to trips. For this reason, we are particularly careful to remove sand and pebbles.

こうして、予定していた 約 24㎡余り の清掃を完了しました。真夏の陽射しの下でしたが、昨年とは違って、血圧の低下と脈拍の増加の幅が小さくなっています。少しずつですが、身体のリハビリが進んでいる証拠かも知れません。良い傾向です。

In this way, we completed the planned cleaning of approximately 24 square meters. Despite the hot midsummer sun, unlike last year, the drop in blood pressure and increase in pulse rate were smaller. This may be evidence that physical rehabilitation is progressing, albeit slowly. This is a positive trend.

連日、猛暑が伝えられる中、公園周辺で朝のウォーキングをする人は減っている様に思います。けれど、新しい顔ぶれの人と挨拶を交わす事も増えています。そして、今回、素敵な人と出会いました。ウォーキングではなく、オカリナの練習に来た人ですが、明るく、積極的な、少し年上の女性の方でした。
次回の清掃予定は、今回のエリアに隣接したエリアです。また、オカリナの音が聴けるでしょうか。楽しみです。

With the scorching heat continuing day after day, fewer people are taking morning walks around the park. On the other hand, we are also greeting more new people. And this time, I met a wonderful person. She was a cheerful, active, slightly older woman who had come to practice the ocarina, not for a walk. I wonder if we'll be able to hear the sound of the ocarina again next time.
