ハードだった帰省旅 / A Tough Trip Home

先日（5/31）、兄への手土産を持って帰省してきました。身体的な負荷を掛けたくて、帰省旅の一部を自転車にしていますが、今回は予想以上にハードな旅になりました。

On May 31, I went home to bring a gift for my brother. I wanted to put some physical strain on myself, so I usually do part of my trips home by bicycle, but this one was a lot tougher than I expected.

帰省するには山々が連なる県境を越す必要がありますが、いつもより負荷を大きくしたいと考えて、いつも下車している駅よりも手前の駅で下車する事にしました。しかし、それによって別の県境も越える必要が生まれたのです。

To get home, I had to cross a mountainous prefectural border, but I wanted to put more strain on myself than usual, so I decided to get off at a station earlier than the one I usually get off at. However, this meant that I had to cross another prefectural border.

以前は、標高 200ｍ を過ぎた駅で下車して、標高 430ｍ の峠を越えていたのですが、下車駅を変更して、今回は 標高 130ｍからスタートして、峠を 二つ超える事にしました。しかも、風速 5～8ｍ の向かい風もあり、僕にとってはハードな挑戦になりました。

Previously, I got off at a station past an altitude of 200m and crossed a pass at an altitude of 430m, but this time I changed the station where I got off, started at an altitude of 130m, and crossed two passes. However, there was a headwind of 5 to 8m, so it was a hard challenge for me.

しかし、自転車の旅はいいものです。景色や風土を眺めながら、自分の身体と心に合せたペースで走れて、いつも自然の中に居る事が感じられるからです。

But bicycle trips are good. You can ride at a pace that suits your body and mind while taking in the scenery and the climate, and you can always feel like you are in nature.

兄は、前回会った時よりも元気そうで、色々な話も出来ました。そして、手土産にした器具を使っての百歳体操にも付き合ってくれて、前回よりも、多くのエクササイズに挑戦してくれました。また、6月にも帰省します。 雨さえ降らなければ、今回の走行ルートに再び挑戦します。 兄よりも多く体調を回復させるのが目標です。

My brother seemed healthier than the last time I saw him, and we were able to talk about a lot of things. He also joined me in doing centenarian exercises using the equipment I had brought as a gift, and tried more exercises than last time. I will be going back home again in June. As long as it doesn't rain, I will try the same route again. My goal is to recover more than my brother.
