【 セルフステア / Self-Steer 】

記事では「ハンドル操作はグリップを失って危険です」と回答しています。その理由は、ハンドル操作はオートバイに備わっている大変に重要な “セルフステア” 機能を台無しにして、タイヤのグリップ力も失わせるからです。

【セルフステア】とは、オートバイが安全に効率良く走るために備わっている大切な機能です。直線路をまっすぐに走らせる場合も、コーナーを旋回する場合も、その時の走行状況に合せて、オートバイが安定して走る為に、前輪の向き（以降は舵角と表現）を自動的に調整している機能で、設計段階で組み込まれています。つまり、まっすぐに走らせている場合でも、ハンドルは常に左右に細かく切れる事を繰り返し、結果的に安定してまっすぐに走れる様になっています。逆に、ハンドルを直進状態で固定してしまうと、間違いなく、まっすぐには走れません。これは、旋回時も同じです。ハンドルが左右に細かく自由に動き続けてこそ、安定して旋回が出来る様になっています。ですから、オートバイの能力を正しく発揮させて安全に走らせるには、ハンドルを押さつけず、ハンドル操作も一切行なわず、セルフステアの機能を邪魔しない事がとても大切なのです。
