もう戻れない、ハニカムLED / Honeycomb LEDs: No Going Back

以前のガレージと較べて、現在のガレージはとても暗かったので、蛍光灯タイプの LED を 10本ほど設置して、一旦は満足していました。しかし、整備解説用の撮影をするには暗く感じていました。

Compared to my previous garage, my current one was very dark, so I installed about 10 fluorescent-type LEDs and was initially satisfied. However, it still felt too dark for filming maintenance instructions.

そこで、先日紹介した通り、天井設置型の 六角型（ハニカム型）LED を追加で設置してみました。すると、予想以上に明るくて明るくて、もう、これ無しではやっていけない事に気付きました。

So, as I mentioned the other day, I installed some additional ceiling-mounted hexagonal (honeycomb) LEDs. They were much brighter than I expected, and I realized I couldn't live without them.

画像では少し伝わり難いかも知れませんが、明るさは全然違っていて、僕の性格まで明るくなってしまいそうな程です。きっと、昼間よりも明るい筈です。だから、このガレージだったら、徹夜でも楽しく整備が行えると確信した程です。

It's a little hard to convey in photos, but the brightness is completely different, so much so that it almost makes me feel cheerful. It's probably brighter than daytime. So now, I'm convinced that with this garage, I can enjoy working all night long.

もし、ガレージの照明に不満を感じている人がいたら、この六角LED をお勧めします。一度使うと、もう戻れません。

受取拒絶シールの年賀状 / New Year's Card with a "Reject" Sticker

今日（1/26）、投函した年賀状が返送されてきました。それも「受取拒絶」のシールが貼られて帰って来たので、「何か、嫌われる様な悪い事をしてしまったのか？」とショックを受けて、暫く狼狽えてしまいました。

Today, the New Year's card I mailed was returned. It also came with a "Reject" sticker. I was shocked and confused for a while, wondering, "Did I do something wrong to make them dislike me?"

30年以上前、お世話になった方で、それから、年賀状をやり取りを続けていた方で、とても紳士的で写真撮影の好きな方でした。ただ、遠くにお住まいだった事もあり、お世話になった当時にお会いしただけで、それ以来、お会いする機会も電話でお話をする機会も無かった方です。そして、唯一の繋がりが「受取拒絶」のシールで切れてしまったのです。

人生で初めての事だったので狼狽えましたが、落ち着いて考え直してみれば、その方の年齢を考えると、ご本人さん以外の方が対応せざるを得ない「受取拒絶」もある事に気付いて、心の不安や傷は少し和らぎました。恐らく、今後は、この様な年賀状が返送されてくる事が増えてくるでしょう。そして、いつか、年賀状を出す相手先が無くなる日も来るのかも知れません。
でも、今回、一つ決心をしました。例え何があったとしても、相手先様には決して「受取拒絶」のシールをお届けする事が無いように手配をします。

This was someone I was indebted to over 30 years ago, and we continued to exchange New Year's cards. He was a very gentlemanly man who loved photography. However, he lived far away, so I only met him when I was indebted to him. Since then, I haven't had a chance to meet him in person or speak to him on the phone. And now, our only connection has been severed by a "Reject" sticker.

This was the first time this had ever happened to me, so I was flustered. However, after calming down and thinking about it, I realized that, given the person's age, there are cases where "rejection" is handled by someone other than the recipient themselves, and my anxiety and hurt have eased somewhat. I expect we'll see more and more of these kinds of returned New Year's cards in the future. And one day, there may come a day when there are no people to send New Year's cards to.
But this time, I have made a decision. No matter what happens, I will make arrangements to ensure that no recipients ever receive a "reject" sticker.

明るいガレージ計画 / Bright Garage Plan

ガレージ内の明るさが欲しくて、追加で、天井設置式の LED照明を購入しました。 最近流行りの、六角形の形になった LED照明です。
I wanted more light in the garage, so I purchased additional ceiling-mounted LED lighting. These are the trendy hexagonal LED lights.

神戸時代は、通常の事務所スペースをガレージにしていたので、天井高も 2400 ㎜ 程度で、天井ボードの色は白、そして天井設置式の 60🅆 蛍光灯が 3本配置してあり、込み入った整備時以外に明るさが不足する事は無かったのですが、現在のガレージは一般的な車庫で、照明は 60ｗ 蛍光灯が一本だけ設置してあるだけで、しかも天井高は 3100 ㎜を超え、天井ボードは無く、むき出しの鉄骨が灰色に塗られているだけで、とても整備出来る様な照明ではありませんでした。

When I was in Kobe, I used a regular office space as my garage, so the ceiling height was about 2400 mm, the ceiling panels were white, and there were three ceiling-mounted 60W fluorescent lights. This meant there was never a lack of light except during complex maintenance. However, my current garage is a standard carport, with only a single 60W fluorescent light. The ceiling height is over 3100 mm, there are no ceiling panels, and the exposed steel beams are painted gray, making it difficult to provide proper lighting for maintenance.

そこで、追加で 2200 ㎜ 程の高さに、可動式の 60🅆型 LED 照明を3本など、合計 8本の LED照明を追加しましたが、やはり、神戸時代と較べると、明るさが物足りませんし、ガレージ内で整備ヤセッテイング記事用の綺麗な画像を撮影するには十分な明るさではありません。 そこで、リール動画などでよく目にする 6角形型の LED照明を注文したのです。

So I added eight LED lights, including three adjustable 60mm LED lights, at a height of about 2200mm. However, compared to the lights in Kobe, they still weren't bright enough, and they weren't bright enough to take beautiful images for my maintenance and tuning articles. So I ordered the hexagonal LED lights you often see in video reels.

製品が届いたので、一旦、床で実際に組み立ててみました。中国製ですが、到着時の梱包には発砲スチロールの緩衝材が入り、説明書と電気製品として概要記載も 明記されていて、ひと昔前と較べると、世界標準に近い仕様になっていました。面白いのは。基本となる LED バー は 24本と明記されているのですが、実際には 25本入っていた事。 これも中国製品らしく、後々のクレーム対応を前もってしておくという考えでしょう。つまり、良心的な配慮ではなく、あくまでも合理的対処です。

When the product arrived, I first assembled it on the floor. It's made in China, but the packaging included styrofoam cushioning, instructions, and a detailed description of the electrical product. Compared to a few years ago, the specifications were closer to global standards. What's interesting is that while the standard LED bar count was specified as 24, there were actually 25. This is also typical of Chinese products, and is likely an attempt to prepare for future complaints. In other words, it's not a conscientious consideration, but rather a rational response.

後は、この LED照明を固定する ラダー形状のフレームを作成して、それを 床から 2400 ㎜ 程度の高さに吊り下げる予定です。これで、今年は、このガレージから、オートバイ各部の 詳細な分解・整備解説を、クリアな画像を付けて報告したいと考えています。

Next, I plan to create a ladder-shaped frame to mount the LED lights and hang it about 2400 mm above the floor. With this, I hope to be able to report detailed disassembly and maintenance instructions for each motorcycle part from this garage this year, complete with clear images.

山を歩けば ・・ / Walking the Mountain Path

今日、久し振りに山を歩きました。
山と言っても、自宅の裏に高くそびえる裏山ですが、色々な出会いがありました。
Today, I hiked a mountain for the first time in a while.
Although it's actually just a mountain towering behind my house, I had many interesting encounters.


玄関を出て10分足らずなのに、自宅の周りでは聴けない、鳥たちの鳴き声に迎えられｍした。きっと、「人間来たよ ～～ 」「妖怪、来たよ～～ 」と言っているのかも知れません。
Less than 10 minutes after leaving my front door, I was greeted by the chirping of birds, something I don't hear around my house. Perhaps they were saying, "Humans have arrived!" or "YOKAI have arrived!"





やがて、鳥たちは警戒を解いたのか、遠くへと去って行ったので、登りを再開しました。山は岩山由来なので、山道はそれなりに急峻で、コンクリート製の擬木で作られた階段（ステップ）が欠かせず、「これを作ってくれた人に感謝しなくては！」思っていると、上から一人の男性が山道を下りて来ました。挨拶を交わし、感嘆な世間話をしていると、なんと！その人が 40年前に作られた山道、階段だという事が判明。「当時、市から委託されて、努めていた会社から 3人が担当して、半年間、ほぼ毎日の様に働いた」という事でした。ありがとうございます。お陰様で、とても歩きやすいです。

Eventually, the birds seemed to let their guard down and flew off into the distance, so I resumed my climb. Because the mountain originates from rocky terrain, the trail is fairly steep, and concrete steps made of imitation wood are essential. I was thinking, "I must thank the person who built these!" when a man came down the trail from above. We exchanged greetings and chatted in awe, and to my surprise, I discovered that the trail and steps were built 40 years ago. He told me, "At the time, the city commissioned three people from the company I was working for to build them, and they worked almost every day for six months." Thank you. Thanks to them, it's now a very easy walk.

そして、当初の目的地、山頂の東屋で引き返し、もう少しで下山終了のタイミングで、一人の男性が長い木の棒を持って登ってこられたのです。挨拶を交わし、また世間話をしてみると、なんと、その木の棒に見えたのは オーストラリアの先住民族・アボリジニの人達の使う神聖な楽器「Digeridoo」（ディジュリドゥ）との事。内部をシロアリたちによって空洞になったユーカリの木から作られていて、実際に、先端の歌口に唇をつけて吹いて聞かせて下さいました。尺八の音色に近い音でしたが、この楽器の場合、唇の振動を利用して音を出しているので、分類上は金管楽器の様です。フルートと同じ原理で音を出す尺八は木管楽器、やはり、少し違う音色でした。

I turned back at my original destination, the gazebo at the summit. Just as I was about to finish my descent, a man came climbing up carrying a long wooden stick. After exchanging greetings and making small talk, I discovered that the wooden stick was actually a didgeridoo, a sacred instrument used by the Australian Aboriginal people. It's made from eucalyptus trees whose interiors have been hollowed out by termites, and he actually put his lips to the mouthpiece at the end and blew into it. The sound was similar to that of a shakuhachi, but since this instrument uses lip vibrations to produce sound, it's classified as a brass instrument. The shakuhachi, which produces sound using the same principle as a flute, is a woodwind instrument, so its timbre was a little different.

日頃、仕事の関係もあり、ずっとPCの前に座っている“引き籠り”生活をしていますが、やはり、こうして外を歩くと何かに出会えると「人と人は、会うべきタイミングで、会うべき場所で会う」という想いを実感させられます。そして、こんな身近に歩ける山がある事に感謝もしています。「さあ、次は、いつ、PCから逃げようか？」

Due to work, I spend most of my time holed up in front of my computer, but when I walk outside like this and encounter something new, it really brings home the idea that "people meet at the right time, in the right place." I'm also grateful to have mountains so close to me where I can walk. "So, when's the next time I'll escape from my computer?"

「課題」と「ゲーム」/ "Challenge" and "Games"

GRAは、オートバイを使った競技・ジムカーナを広めると同時に、「いつまでも、楽しく、安全なオートバイライフ」の浸透を目標にして活動していますが、最も達成が難しい課題「Challenge」は『ライダーの意識』だと感じています。そして、その課題を克服する目的を兼ねて「ゲームタイム」を行なった際の映像です。

GRA promotes the motorcycle sport of gymkhana while working toward the goal of promoting a "long-lasting, fun, and safe motorcycle lifestyle." We believe the most difficult challenge to achieve is rider awareness. This video shows a "Game Time" event held with the goal of overcoming this challenge.

私達は多くの人々と共有する社会の中で生きていますが、そんな見知らぬ多くの人々の存在を軽視したライダーの行動が、オートバイの社会的評価を低くしている事を経験しています。だから、GRAが開催するイベントでは、同じ目的を持って集まった参加者全員で、お互いを支え合い、イベント運営も共有し合うシステムを多く採用しており、その一つが、誰でも気軽に一緒に楽しめる『ゲームタイム』です。どうぞ、その様子を動画でご覧ください。

We live in a society where we share things with many people, but we have experienced how the behavior of riders who disregard the existence of these many strangers lowers the social status of motorcycles. That's why GRA's events often employ systems that allow participants who gather with the same goal to support each other and share event management. One such system is "Game Time," a casual, enjoyable activity for everyone. Please watch the video to see how it works.

課題と苦悩 / Challenges and Struggles

いつも、今後の記事規格やイベント活動企画などの検討を進めながら、公式Webサイトの更新を始めとする活動を行なっていますが、運営の【 課題と苦悩 】についても採り上げていきたいと考えています。

We're constantly working on updating our official website and other activities, while also considering future article standards and event planning. We also wanted to address the challenges and struggles we face.

「課題と苦悩」と言うと、少し大袈裟に聞こえるかも知れませんが、1991年に活動を始めてから様々な課題に直面しつつ、一つひとつ解決しながら進めて来ましたが、どうしても解決が難しい「課題」もあります。それは、資金でも、目標設定でも、イベント開催会場でも、支援でもなく、「ライダーの意識」の問題です。それが、長年、取り組んでいる大きな「課題」であり、苦悩し続けている点です。

While "challenges and struggles" may sound a bit of an exaggeration, since we began our activities in 1991, we've faced and overcome various challenges one by one. However, some challenges remain unresolved. These challenges aren't funding, goal setting, event venues, or support; they're rider awareness. This is a major challenge we've been working on for many years, and one that continues to plague us.

「オートバイを走らせるだけなのに、苦悩？」と思う人も少なくないでしょうが、GRA が活動目標として掲げて追及している事の中では、「人の心」が大きな要素であり、それこそが オートバイが社会の中で広く受け入れられるのに欠かせないと考えているのです。

Many may wonder, "Why are there so many struggles when all we do is ride motorcycles?" However, "people's hearts" are a major element of GRA's mission and pursuit, and we believe they are essential for motorcycles to be widely accepted in society.

具体的なプランは、今後、煮詰めていく予定ですが、機会がある旅に、この「課題」に触れた内容の記事を掲載しながら少しずつ進んでいきますので、理解と賛同の輪が少しでも広がる事を期待しています。

We plan to continue to refine our specific plans in the future, but we will be moving forward little by little by publishing articles that touch on these "challenges" when we have the opportunity to travel, and we hope that this will help to expand the circle of understanding and support, even if only a little.

ポチ袋 作成中 / Making Gift Envelope

急に思いついて、3日前、祝儀用の「ポチ袋」を作りました。 ただし、現金を入れるのではなく、昨年末に作成した「正月用カード」と「キャンディ」を入れて作りました。年賀状やメールを出す相手ではないけど、日頃からお世話になっている人へ、新年のお祝いの言葉と一緒に手渡したくて作りました。

Three days ago, I suddenly decided to make some "pochibukuro" (small envelopes) for congratulatory gifts. However, instead of putting cash inside, I put the "New Year's cards" I made at the end of last year and some candy inside. I made them because I wanted to hand them out to people who I'm grateful to, even if they're not the ones I send New Year's cards or emails to, along with some New Year's congratulations.

すると、予想以上に喜ばれたので、追加でもっと作る事にしました。日頃からお世話になっている人が多い事にも気付いたので、みんなに「おめでとうございます」「今年もよろしくお願いします」と挨拶をして、手渡しをします。これで、合計 50通以上になるでしょう。

これを読んでいる方には、直接お渡し出来ませんが、「今年も、よい年になる事を祈っています」

They were received much better than I expected, so I decided to make some more. I also realized that there are many people who I'm grateful to on a daily basis, so I'll be handing them out to everyone, saying "Congratulations" and "Thank you for your continued support this year." This will bring the total to over 50.

To those reading this, I can't give them to you in person, but I wish you all the best in the new year.

海外から、新年のプレゼント / A New Year's Gift from Overseas

先日、海外の友人から、新年のメッセージと共にプレゼントが届きました。一度も会った事も無い、僕よりもずっと若い友人ですが、手作りの ブーメラン が届いたのです。

Yesterday, I received a gift from a friend overseas, along with a New Year's message. He's much younger than me and I've never met him before, but he sent me a handmade boomerang.

彼は、GRA の公式Webサイトや 公式 Youtube サイトで知ってくれて、2年前から、オートバイについての色々な質問や便り、時には画像や動画も送ってくれています。そして、とても熱心なだけでなく、大変に誠実な人柄である事は 一生懸命に 僕の名前を日本語と英語で書いてくれたプレゼントからも伝わってきます。

こんな素敵な出会いがあるからこそ、Webサイトを通じた発信をこれからも行なっていきますし、彼の様な存在が英文でも発信する事の大きな励みになっています。 

He found me through GRA's official website and YouTube channel, and two years ago, he started sending me various questions about motorcycles, letters, and even photos and videos. He's not only very enthusiastic, but also has a very sincere personality, as can be seen from the gift, which he painstakingly wrote my name in both Japanese and English.

It's because of these wonderful encounters that I'll continue to share my message through the website, and people like him are a great encouragement to me to continue sharing my message in English.

2026年 年賀状一覧 / 2026 New Year's Card List

2026年は干支で午年になるので、年末ぎりぎりになってから、年賀状用デザインを一気に作成しました。もちろん！ 生成AI の助けがあってのこそです。
Since 2026 is the Year of the Horse, I created my New Year's card designs right at the end of the year. Of course! I used generative AI to help me with this.

しかし、生成AI によって、そのプロンプト（指示文）によって、本当に 様々な画像が生成されました。 2026年は 生成AIが一気に普及した年になりましたが、同じ画像生成機能を持っていても、品質に大きな差が生まれ始めている事を実感していますので、今後、多くのサービスが淘汰されていくのは間違いありません。 僕は、少なくとも ChatGPT は使っていません。

However, generative AI's prompts generated a truly diverse range of images. While 2026 was the year generative AI became widespread, I've noticed significant differences in quality even among services with the same image generation capabilities. I'm sure many services will be eliminated in the future. At the very least, I don't use ChatGPT.

今後、あらゆるメディアで目にするものの多くが 生成AI で作られたものになるでしょう。特に、ニュースキャスターも 実在の人ではない場面が増えるでしょうし、商品広告でも、実際の商品は一切撮影せず、殆どが PC上で作られるのは間違いないでしょう。実際、自動車のPR動画の多く、特に新型車発表時のものは、生成AI の作品です。

Going forward, much of what we see in all media will be created with generative AI. In particular, news anchors will increasingly be depicted as non-real people, and product advertisements will undoubtedly be created almost entirely on PC, without any actual product footage. In fact, many automobile promotional videos, especially those for new car launches, are the work of generative AI.

生成AI 作品ばかりになるのが当たり前になると、生の人間が実在の人やモノを撮影して、生の人間が作成したコピーや文章こそが、真価が問われると同時に、貴重な存在となっていくのは間違いありません。

As generative AI works become the norm, the true value of copy and writing created by real people, filming real people and things, will undoubtedly be questioned and become even more valuable.

同時に、懸念すべき事、恐れている事は、企業が自社作品の本物らしいフェイク動画を作る事以上に、一般市民や国家がフェイク動画を大量に作って広めてしまう事です。

At the same time, what is concerning and fearful is not so much companies creating authentic-looking fake videos of their own work as it is ordinary citizens and nation states creating and spreading fake videos in large quantities.

2025年後半、高性能な動画生成AI が 次々とリリースされたので、既にリール動画などで目にしている人も多いでしょうが、それが圧倒的な量で広まり、社会を一種混乱状態に陥れるのは間違いないでしょう。特に、国家によって作られた場合には深刻な影響が広がるでしょう。

In the second half of 2025, high-performance video-generative AI will be released one after another, and many people will have already seen them in reel videos, but there is no doubt that they will spread in overwhelming numbers and plunge society into a state of chaos. The impact will be particularly serious when they are created by nation states.

そういう意味で、2026年は、真の情報、真のジャーナリズムが問われる年になるのかも知れません。
In that sense, 2026 may be the year when true information and true journalism will be questioned.

その様な時代の流れの中、GRA の存在感は高まると僕は信じています。と言うのも、オートバイの運動力学分析やライディング論についても、他には見られない独自な理論に基づいていて、汎用な知識や情報を使って生成する AI には作れないものだからです。特に、数多く保管している 過去の映像こそ、今の時代だからこそ、更に価値が高まるでしょう。

Amid such trends, I believe GRA's presence will grow. This is because our analysis of motorcycle kinematics and riding theory is based on unique theories that cannot be found anywhere else, and is something that generative AI cannot create using general-purpose knowledge and information. In particular, the large amount of archived footage will likely become even more valuable in today's world.

しかし、生成AI を否定しているわけではありません。逆に、生成AI を使って、例えば フロントフォークのストローク位置別のバネ乗数を、金属スプリングとエアスプリングを合わせた数値でグラフ化する計画していますし、運動力学を示す簡単な動画の作成も計画していて、それらによって、より多くのライダーのオートバイに対する知識が深まり、より安全で快適なオートバイライフが実現すると信じているのです。

2026年も、GRAの活動にご期待とご支援を宜しくお願いします。

However, this does not mean that we are rejecting generative AI. On the contrary, we plan to use generative AI to graph, for example, the spring multiplier for each stroke position of the front fork, combining values ​​for metal springs and air springs. We also plan to create simple videos demonstrating kinematics. We believe that these will help more riders deepen their knowledge of motorcycles and lead to a safer and more comfortable motorcycle experience.
